Staying at Croom Motorcycle Area
You’re headed to Croom Motorcycle Area to getaway for a couple days and are wondering where you can stay. Well, since Croom is kind of in the middle of nowhere and also in the middle of a forest, the choices are a little limited.
Below are the three basic choices available, each with their own features and amenities.
Buttgenbach Campground: Buttgenbach Mine Campground at Croom Motorcycle Area near Brooksville Florida offers partial hookup RV and tent camping adjacent to CMA OHV riding. The spacious 51 site campground offers water and electric hookups. Sites have picnic tables and fire rings and trails and the amphitheater are accessible from the campground.
This is a first come first serve campground managed by Florida’s state forestry service.
- No pets are allowed in Buttgenbach Campground or CMA.
- No alcohol is allowed in Buttgenbach Campground or CMA.
- No firearms are allowed.
- Cell phone service is spotty, and WIFI is unavailable inside Buttgenbach Campground and CMA.
- Offers 30/50 amp electric service to the sites.
- Offers water hookups or water fill locations. Water is available for drinking.
- Provides camping options for tent campers. If you will be sleeping in a tent this location likely has a site to accommodate you.
- Publicly managed. This campground or RV park is a public park managed by a state, federal, or municipal agency. Generally these types of parks have stricter rules on camping.
- Two Bathrooms available. If you are looking for a campground or RV park with bathrooms including toilets or restrooms reviews and our data show that this location has you covered.
- Provides shower facilities onsite. If you need to take a shower and didn’t bring your own along, or don;t like yours, this RV park or campground has shower facilities.
- Sites have picnic tables and fire rings.
- All campers must check-in on 1st day of reservation by 5:00 pm to receive gate combination.
- All campers must purchase an Annual OHV Permit for all units entering this facility when camping.
- OHM/ATVs may be ridden from the campground to riding areas in low gear at walking speed. They are not allowed on main roads outside of the campground.
- Motorcycles and ATVs may be ridden from the campground to riding areas in low gear only and at walking speed.
- No riding after dark. This includes riding to the bathhouses or in the campground.
- Campfires are only permitted in grills or designated sites. Firewood on the forest foor may be picked up by hand and used in campground (not trailered). Use of chainsaws (gas, electric or battery) is prohibited.
- Protect our trees as they provide beneficial shade. Do not cut, scar or mutilate them. Do not drive nails into or hang anything from trees. Use of tree straps is allowed.
- All garbage must be bagged, tied and disposed of in trash houses.
- Campground checkout time is 2:00 p.m.
- Campground quiet time is 10:00 p.m.
- Only registered campers and their vehicles are permitted in the camping area. No day use.
- Site are available on a first come first serve basis.

Moto Ranch at Croom: This is the newest option available that just opened up in the fall of 2022.
Moto Ranch at Croom features five unique lodging accommodations, situated on 5 acres of private land, inside Croom Motorcycle Area & the Withlacoochee State Forest. There are two houses and three travel trailers available to rent year round. The five acres property has a ton of amenities available including pergolas with seating and a fire pit, wash stations at each place if you’re coming to ride and much more.
A few of the best features that separates the Moto Ranch from the Buttgenbach Campground is that pets are welcome, you can have alcohol, and there is WIFI service and a pool on their property. If you want to stay inside CMA, be able to just wake up in the morning and ride, and you want all the amenities of home, than this is where you will want to stay.

Area Hotels: The hotels in the area include Quality Inn, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Days Inn and Microtel Inn. Please check their respective websites for rates and availability.
Any of these hotel choices have all the usual amenities and features we all expect from a stay at a branded hotel.
They are located outside the gates of Croom Motorcycle Area near the intersection of 50 & I 75. You will have to wait until the gates open at 8 AM to enter Croom and leave by 5 PM each day you plan on riding.
CMA General Rules
Please become familiar with the RULES that govern the use of the area. Only by becoming responsible motorcyclists can we ensure our use of this forest treasure.
- All area users must enter at the entrance located at I-75 and S.R. 50 behind the 7/11.
- All OHV users and equipment must stop at the CMA gatehouse for access to the OHV riding areas.
- All OHM/ATVs must remain within CMA boundary fencing as shown on CMA map.
- A permit/pass is required to ride within the motorcycle area. The permit must be displayed on the front of each motorcycle and ATV. Persons operating motorcycles and ATVs without a permit will be subject to expulsion and/or fine. You can purchase permits/passes here.
- Permits/passes will be issued for two wheel cycles and 3 and 4 wheel ATVs. ATVs must meet the following requirements:
a) Wheel base of less than 55 inches.
b) Width of less than 45 inches.
c) Total vehicle weight less than 500 Ibs.
d) Travel on 3 or 4 low pressure tires.
e) Has a seat that is designed to be straddled by the operator. - Day Use Areas are open 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. All are expected to exit the front gate no later than 5:00 pm. Gate closes PROMPTLY at 5:00 pm.
- Off-road use within park is restricted to motorcycles and ATVs. All other vehicles must remain on designated roads.
- Park only in designated areas. Do not leave trash on trails.
- Pack out trash/refuse.
- All OHM/ATVs are required to have spark arr esters and mufflers in accordance with Florida Highway Patrol Handbook.
- Legal hours of motorcycle and ATV operation is from sunrise to sunset.
- All riders must wear D.O.T. approved protective headgear designed for OHM/ATVs.
- All riders under age 16 must also wear eye protection and over ankle boots.
- OHM/ATV operators under age 16 are required to have direct adult (18 or older) supervision in all areas, at all times, including while in the campground.
- No double riding on OHMs, no exceptions. No double riding on ATVs unless unit was designed by the manufacturer for use by more than one rider.
- All riders will be required to obey all traffic and information signs.
- The inexperienced riding areas are for children 12 and under and require adult supervision at all times. Experienced riders, youth or adult, are not permitted to ride in these areas.
- Motorcycles and ATVs may be ridden from the campground to riding areas in low gear only and at walking speed.
- All vehicles are prohibited within the designated non-riding zones in the day use areas.
- Pets are not permitted.
- Camp fires permitted in grills and specifically designated sites only.
- Park in designated areas only.
- Camp in designated numbered sites; two (2) tents or one mobile camping unit per site; five (5) persons maximum per site.
- Do not cut, scar, or mutilate trees. They provide shade for your benefit. Please protect them.
- All garbage must be disposed of in refuse stations.
- Campground checkout time is 2:00 p.m.
- Campground quiet time is 10:00 p.m.
- Only registered campers and their vehicles are permitted in the camping area. No day use.
- Firearms not permitted.
- No vehicles permitted behind camp site boundary cable.
- Chainsaw use prohibited.
- Alcoholic beverages prohibited on state lands.
- Unlicensed vehicles are prohibited on forest roads.
- All non-street legal vehicles are required to be hauled or trailered in and out of the Croom Motorcycle Area.
- All group activities require a Special Use Permit, obtained a minimum of two weeks in advance. Special Event requests must be made sixty days in advance.
- All groups and event coordinators using CMA are required to obtain a Special Use Permit from the Visitor Center.
